Clearwater will host a public dockside re-launch ceremony at Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie on July 4 between 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Following the re-launch ceremony, the sloop will depart the dock at 7 p.m. for a special Independence Day sail, which will include live music. Tickets for the Independence Day sail are expected to sell out quickly and can be purchased at this link.
“We're really excited that the Clearwater will be sailing again. After an extensive restoration, the sloop will be in tip top shape. It's great that the Hudson River has its tall ship back” said Dave Conover, Clearwater’s interim executive director.
This winter’s restoration of the ship’s hull, which cost Clearwater $850,000 has been the largest restoration to date. Since October 2015, the sloop has been in dry dock at the Hudson River Maritme Museum, where the captains, crew and shipwrights had the job of replacing the midsection of the 106-foot sloop. A log book of the restoration can be found at this link.
During the sailing season Clearwater serves the Hudson River with education programs where the focus is experiential as students come aboard and learn about Hudson River ecology, history and navigation.
